| Tapeats became known as the "Snake Campsite". We saw the first of three Rattlesnakes on the trip and a harmless, but large, King Snake. Bill was the only one to see all of them (there were other witnesses), so he became "Snake Boy" or sometimes called "Squirrel Boy" because he always seemed to have snacks on him :-) |

This was our hottest and most despised site (about .25 miles south of Tapeats Creek), yet we wanted to layover in order to hike to Thunder River early the next morning, which we did. We would soak our cotton sheets with cold creek water and cover ourselves before heading back to camp, and the sheets would dry out before we got there. Donna, Judy and Cindy opted to stay at camp and spend time at the creek reading in the shade and swimming. We appreciate them for filtering water for the group before we got back. It was a strenuous hike, but Thunder River was beautiful with a waterfall spewing out of the cave high on the cliff. I will leave before daybreak if I ever do the full hike again. |
